television TERROR at BYT...

for the second year in a row i teamed up with shervin lainez (photograper extraordinaire) for a brightest young things HALLOWEEN SPECIAL! this year it was all about the guys - thank you ever so much to rory sheridan, mark keeler, mitchell west, will sharp, cole sharp, and gavin holland for giving up a month of sunday brunches to help get this thing together, and, as ever, thanks go to svetlana legetic (for so readily giving green lights) and erik loften (for the truly terrifying graphic design you see above). check out TELEVISION TERROR: halloween inspiration 2 as soon as you dare...
have a haunted, haunted thursday,
morgan

28 October 2008

sick day.

and i wasn't feeling all that great when i carved my pumpkin this weekend, either.
i took today off to go to the doctor (prognosis: BRONCHITIS) and sleep, and as crummy as i feel i'm actually kind of glad to be able to catch up on a few things (read: seam-ripping projects and the olsen twins' oprah appearance). there's also a pretty good chance that i'll finally get around to organizing my jewelry, but hey, LET'S NOT GET CRAZY.

love and hate at BYT...

23 October 2008

a little at a time.

earlier this week i did the impossible: i left the house on a monday night. i was teetering on the very edge of my current Coughing Illness of Doom, but i bundled up and DEALT WITH IT to go see benjy ferree and the griefs at black cat backstage. the griefs were awesome, all 60s and garage-y, and benjy + band were just amazing. and wonderful. and fantastic. i had a monster headache so i bought earplugs (i'm old, yo), but by the third song i had taken them out - i just wanted to hear EVERYTHING as much as i possibly could. even though it was exactly the kind of monday night where you're hard-pressed to think of anything nicer than pillows and blankets and books, the show was just about as dreamy. their new songs (especially fear) brought the house down, and though i feel lucky to have heard a lot of the new album over sunday night dinners at st. ex, i really could not be any more excited for come back to the five and dime, bobby dee, bobby dee, out february 3 on domino. and you should be excited, too.

22 October 2008

overtly gratuitous outfit post.

alright so i already talked about my fall/winter CASUAL CONCEPT, but this past friday i took its dressier version out for the night. "penthouse pauper" is my latest mantra for getting dressed to go out; it's a natty, quasi-victorian take on "poor little rich girl" (or, perhaps even MORE descriptive: david bowie visits the citizens band) and it - along with the real live fall weather - has given me an excuse to layer up with the blazers, slips, and vintage furs that are threatening to explode their way out of my closet.
the destination for the evening was a teen vogue party at cusp, where the lemonade flowed like wine and i was NOT the lucky winner of the $1000 gift certificate. so bummed! i totally would have bought these and a whole bunch of loeffler randall....

i totally forgot...

...about when i was in college and equally in love with adam green and adam green's hair.
flash forward: still coveting the hair.

13 October 2008

oh, tenenbaum.

i just want to look like the illegitimate child of  bob dylan  and this chandelier.
in the august issue of american vogue, elaine irwin-mellencamp was interviewed about the evolution of her personal style. for the last two months i have NOT been able to stop thinking about this:
when i was younger, i thought grungy plaid shirts accented with lots of jewelry were cute. my husband used to say i looked like a christmas tree.
at 38, she states, she now has "the maturity" to have gotten over this crazy scheme, but can i just say that i find the idea of looking like a christmas tree ODDLY APPEALING? think junky jeans, gnarly t-shirts, lots of flannel, slick little boots (chloe, please), and tons of vintage costume jewelry. i'm calling it "the opulent woodsman" and it is sooo my late fall/winter 08 casual concept...

HOS at BYT...

monkey in the middle. photo by lexie moreland.
this past friday night was the nudie jeans-sponsored denim maniacs recycled denim fashion show at the house of sweden. the verdict: stylish people (SWEDISH), the pleasing to eyes-and-ears division of laura lee (ALSO SWEDISH), and a pre-show rooftop party that included both a gorgeous view of the kennedy center AND hot dogs (COURTESY OF SWEDEN)...
head to BYT for the rest of my HOS event write-up, and for photos GALORE from both lexie moreland and dakota fine. tack så mycket, y'all.

"is that some sort of talon?"

i couldn't resist another "thrifted" post - in spite of the fact that it hurt to take this $4 necklace off long enough to photograph it...

04 October 2008

AND i get to sleep in tomorrow.

the city rejoiced when a target finally opened up in DC proper, but i've yet to set foot inside - the virginia targets are TOO GOOD, and, on a hunch, i stopped in my favorite one today while out in the suburbs running errands. some of the jonathan saunders GO.international line had made its way to the racks a whole day early, and i clearly wasn't the only one who had stopped in - two of the dresses (the marbled-front one at right and a different version of that rad, color-blocked, minidress on the left) were already sold down to just the XLs.
i'm no longer disappointed when, inevitably, i don't love the GO.international pieces in real-life the way i do when i first see them in the press previews, but what i saw of the saunders line was pretty alright. i wasn't so much into the materials but it's been that way since the luella line - the chiffon always looks like shit, no matter what - but i was MORE than pleasantly surprised at the ponte pants (above center). the fit was swell, which hasn't always been the case with these collections (it wasn't until the erin fetherston denim that the fit of anything with legs was a success). i bought the black pair and may end up getting the blue; either way, i'm soo trekking back out there sometime next week for that leather-trimmed blazer - tomorrow, though, i can skip the 8am, get-up-for-GO.international alarm clock. thanks, VA...

automatic.

i can't stop flipping to this page in the barney's co-op catalog, and it doesn't really have all that much to do with the dress. how rad is that b-movie font?? and oh! that HAIR!
