PANDA HEAD IS (NOT) DEAD.

those near and dear to me can attest to the fact that, for the last several months, i've gone back and forth many, many, many, many times about whether or not to continue on with panda head. on the one hand, i've loved having a venue through which to champion the fact that DC style EXISTS; i've loved meeting every single person whose picture i've taken; i've loved getting to know every single person i've had the pleasure of interviewing or otherwise featuring; and i could not be any more appreciative of the opportunities that starting this blog has afforded me. besides all that, it almost seemed ludicrous to want to stop NOW, when i still see great, photograph-worthy outfits everytime i walk out my door and readership is the highest it's ever been.
but try as i might (and even with all these reasons to continue on), i have to admit that i've started to feel more than a little restricted by the street style parameters i set for this blog in the beginning. i've lately felt a need to MAKE and FORM and EDIT rather than be at the mercy of what i see when i leave the house with my camera, and to that end i'm so very excited to announce that panda head is EVOLVING into a project that, for the time being, i'm going to keep under my hat - but i'm superstoked to share that the launch date for this new project is may 12th - and i certainly hope you'll all check it out.
so what does this mean for the blog? and for you, THE READER? firstly, i'm a little sad to say that i'm retiring my camera when it comes to street style-purposes. i'll still be linking to my writing for both brightest young things and the threadbanger blog, so if you enjoy those weekly outclicks then i hope you'll continue to check the site with regularity. i'll also be posting sneak peeks of the new project before the may 12th launch date, which i promise will be a BIG FAT EXCITING THING.
part of the reason i started this site in the first place was to give attention (where attention was and is more than due) to our style scene. you can continue to use panda head as a resource for all things DC style - i'll be maintaining and updating the "fashion district" links list, as well as the calendar and links to other sites.
and now, as you may imagine, is the part where i get a bit weepy and thank a whole ton of people, so i'll try to make it short and sweet and as interesting as possible:
thank you to every last one of you who allowed your picture taken for the site (your patience and style were endless), to the local designers and boutique owners i've interviewed since last september (daisy lacy, jaja nwokeabia of ugoseven, shannan fales of junction, lori parkerson of redeem, marshall thompson of the district line, grace and alishia of unsung designers, neran dhas of kickballers, mary and alyssa of eleni/lynn, ryan of aplomb, stacy mcneal, stacey ditata of the remix, tina seamonster, virginia arrisueno of de*nada design, and will and cole sharp of DURKL), to the people who allowed me to feature their incredible personal style (alexandra, rory, austin, kat, DJ stereofaith, amelia, ashley may, liz, stephanie, kelley, babsieD, shervin lainez, johnny, and jazmyne), to the bands and artists who took part in interviews (panda + angel, the raveonettes, albert hammond jr., evan of ratatat, jessica of the willowz, laura burhenn of georgie james [and her own solo fantasticness], bellman barker, breck of the apes, chris richards, mel of the clientele, let's french, services, jeanine of the 1900s, nicole atkins, au revoir simone, carol bui, amy domingues, and edie sedgwick), to those kind enough to have written up or linked to panda head on their own blogs or in newspapers and magazines, to lindsay hart and jian deleon for intermittent and incredibly appreciated photo contributions, and finally and especially, to ALL OF YOU. i started panda head in august of 2006 and that first month was tremendously excited to have had a whole 47 page views - and now, 17 months later, to have accumulated well over a quarter of a million visits is more than i think i could have even imagined when i started out. panda head (even and especially after may 12th!) will continue to be proof-positive that style does exist in the district, and to those of you who still aren't convinced, i'm at least glad to have given you something to talk about for the last year and a half.
thank you, thank you, thank you, and please stay tuned,
morgan
